What is Kotimaan Pitkä?
Kotimaan Pitkä is a five-day excursion across Finland along a mystery route X where the destinations reveal theirselves during the trip! The journey takes place by bus on Wed 10.9 - Sun 14.9, departing from Undergraduate Centre in Otaniemi (Otakaari 2) and returning to the same place.

Expect group activities with fellow students, fascinating company visits, splashing around, casual exploring of Finland , and a healthy dose of culture to spice up the bus rides.

Price? Max 140€ but by bringing more friends you'll pay less!
So grab a friend and make unforgettable memories together!

Worried about language? No need, we gotchu! There will be an English program on the trip and we also have other non-Finnish speaking participants coming!

AthleTiKs goes Megazone

Once again it is time for the Computer Science Guild to compete in the noble art of laser tag!

The next big Megazone fight will be held on 15.9. at 18:15 in Salmisaaren Liikuntakeskus in Helsinki.

Note! The event is primarily aimed at fuksis/​exchange students; public sign-up opens on Wednesday 10.9. at 12:00

Money for student wellbeing: how would you spend 14 000 euros?

The annual student participatory budgeting project "one euro for every student" is once again underway. The aim is to find a small-scale development project that can be implemented on a tight schedule on campus. We have 14,000 eur from the university's budget at our disposal.

Submit your proposal for a participatory budgeting project to improve student wellbeing on campus by 21st September 2025. The winner of the feasible ideas will be voted on during 2025.

JOKERIAPPRO IS COMING SOON – ARE YOU READY?

With this autumn comes the first anniversary of the launch of the Light Rail Line 15, better known as Jokeri Light Rail, between Helsinki and Espoo. So what better way to celebrate the first year on the tracks than to head towards the most legendary student event of all, the pub crawl?

The Jokeriappro, held for the first time last year, will return on 22.10.2025. The event is primarily aimed at Aalto University students, but all students are welcome.

Familiar to card sharks, there are four sectors to complete, each requiring a collection of stamps. For the most daring appro-goers, there is also the possibility to fill in the whole passport, which entitles you to a special overall badge!!

The event will culminate in the official after-party in the center of Helsinki. So ride the Jokeri Light Rail from start to finish for the fastest route to the city center, where the after-party and the overall badge await you.

HOL open rehearsals and auditions

Do you enjoy singing and would like to do it in great company? Have you always wanted to try singing in a choir, or are you already an experienced singer?

The oldest academic mixed choir in Finland, Hämäläis-Osakunnan Laulajat (HOL), is looking for new singers! In our choir, ambitious music-making goes hand in hand with a lively and diverse social life.

Auditions will be held on Monday, September 8 and September 15 at 6 PM at Hämäläis-Osakunta in Kamppi (Urho Kekkosen katu 4–6 D, 5th floor).

We are also hosting open rehearsals on Tuesday, September 2, 9, and 16 at 6 PM on the 4th floor of Hämäläis-Osakunta. Everyone is welcome to come listen and sing along!

At the audition, applicants will perform a song of their own choice, complete a short sight-reading exercise and a few melody tasks, and sing the Finlandia Hymn as part of a quartet.

Beginners' Taekwon-Do course begins September 14th!

Have you always wanted to learn flashy kicks, punches and blocks? Do you want to improve your balance, flexibility and mobility of body? Are you in need of self-defence skills?

University of Helsinki Taekwon-do Club provides a beginners’ course for all adults (over 18 years). The beginners’ course starts on September 14 and ends in a belt grading test on December 14. Training sessions will be given in Porthania gym (Yliopistonkatu 3) on Sundays at 11:00-12:30. The course costs 75 €, 65 € if you participate with a friend. Fee includes training, membership and belt exam fees, and ITF Federation license fee. Until the end of September you can attend the beginners’ course for free.

Taekwon-Do is a fast-paced Korean martial art that can be used for defense and offense. This martial art is especially famous for its diversity of kicking techniques and suits people from different groups of age, both as a competitive and general fitness sport.

Taekwon-Do develops physical features of the body, such as coordination, agility, mobility and general fitness level. Additionally, it improves focus, perseverance and self-confidence in facing new challenges.  

Taekwon-Do can roughly be divided into six forms: basic techniques, patterns, sparring, special techniques, power breaking and self-defence.
